Kew Gardens, Richmond

We are looking for a skilled Product Designer to help shape the digital experience of Kew by designing engaging, accessible, user-centered experiences across our visitor and public-facing digital products. That means everything from the kew.org website to our shop and membership platforms, as well as potential future applications of digital to enhance the experience at our sites.

Working in a multidisciplinary Product and Design team, you’ll be responsible for designing our products to meet a variety of user needs and business goals, balancing this with the technical constraints. You’ll be curious about how users interact with our products, working with our product managers to define features based on insight, and with our user experience designer in understanding the journeys our users go through throughout their engagement with Kew. You’ll also have a key role to play in enhancing our visual online presence in line with Kew’s brand.

You’ll be an expert in:

  • Designing customer facing products with the user at the heart
  • Developing and applying digital design patterns to maximise consistency, accessibility and usability in line with business goals
  • Prototyping and wireframing (including testing and validating designs)
  • Supporting new features through to launch and beyond (including scoping, QA and UAT testing and impact monitoring)

Examples of work that this role has supported in the past include improvements to page templates and webforms to increase conversion, information architecture changes, site re-designs and mobile optimisation.

All applicants must include a link or file of their work portfolio to demonstrate their design skills across a range of digital products and devices.

This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a leading plant science institute, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and major visitor attraction. Our mission is to understand and protect plants and fungi for the well-being of people and the future of all life on Earth.

We will achieve these goals by drawing on our leading scientific research, unrivalled collections of plants and fungi, global network of partners, inspirational gardens at Kew and Wakehurst, and our 260 years of history.

Join us on our journey as protectors of the world’s plants and fungi.

We also offer a competitive pension, an employee discount scheme and free entry into a wide range of national museums and galleries, as well as access to our own beautiful gardens at Kew and Wakehurst.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from all sections of the community. We guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the post.
