Head of User Experience
Designing experiences that make a difference
Did you know that your BBC enters its centenary year this year? We’re celebrating 100 years for the world's oldest national broadcaster.
We’re transforming our services to meet the needs of audiences in a rapidly changing digital age. Our priority is to deliver content that is loved by all audiences and to extract more from online by joining up the whole of the BBC to connect more deeply with our audiences.
We’ve got a diverse portfolio containing a vast digital estate and assets on the UK internet. We’re a huge streaming media destination, a news source trusted across the world, a provider of educational and entertaining content to children of all ages, and a sports results, analysis, and commentary service, and much more besides. It's an unparalleled portfolio of products, and our strength is our range and breadth. Working with the BBC’s content divisions, our focus is on increasing engagement across our portfolio so that the BBC online becomes a valued daily habit for all audiences just as television and radio have been over the last century.
This ambition means putting the user experience at the heart of everything we do as an organisation.
Who we are, what we do and where we’re going
Our User Experience & Design team are well established, together we drive a people centred approach to developing and innovating our BBC products and services. We are a multidisciplinary team united by a human centred approach.
We’re passionate about developing new, frictionless end to end experiences that are relevant and immersive and which reflect the rapidly changing needs of our audiences. It’s about driving a more relevant, dynamic and coherent end to end user experience across the BBC. We’ve developed momentum in the transformation of some of our key existing digital products like our BBC iPlayer and shaped propositions for new ones such as BBC Sounds. Not only does our work span across a wide range of audience-facing portfolios, but we also support the underpinning services and systems that help to power them.
Our 180-strong squad is made up of designers, researchers, information architects, writers and accessibility specialists. We work multi-functionally with product, technology, editorial, marketing and delivery teams to create world class experiences: whether you are signing in to your BBC Account, being notified on breaking News, discovering the latest hit on iPlayer or simply checking the weather. We venture to ensure that the digital services used by BBC employees are equally awesome, to enable them to do their best work.
As Head of Design, you’ll join our User Experience & Design Leadership Team to help us drive the user experience design vision and strategy to support the BBC ambition.
You’ll collaboratively define and develop the design strategy for the portfolios you lead, working with stakeholders across the business. You’ll lead a super talented group of people who are not only passionate about the experiences they create but also showing how the value of user experience design can make a positive impact.
