Scholastic is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, working with thousands of schools in the UK and Ireland every year to inspire children to read for pleasure through its Book Fairs and Book Clubs programmes. Scholastic provides trusted resources and support to teachers through its educational publishing arm and is also the home to children’s authors and illustrators including Philip Pullman, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler and series including The Hunger Games, Captain Underpants and Horrible Histories.

We are looking for a highly creative thinker, with an equally creative approach, to work across the Picture Book list for Scholastic Children’s Books, designing commercial trade/co-ed friendly books. Working alongside all members of the Picture Book team you will help to produce design concepts according to budget and schedule to not only create new and unique novelty formats, but to also exploit the current backlist developing special sales opportunities. In addition you will be responsible for managing rights material, liaising with the Foreign Rights department to prepare files for foreign editions.

Overall, your experience will require you to support and assist all members of the design team to help produce design concepts for all associated products including sales and marketing materials, to include writing art-working briefs and liaising with illustrators and agents where necessary, whilst always maintaining schedules and delivering to the continual strict deadlines.

Educated to degree level or with experience of the relevant training, you will need to be a creative thinker and all-round team player, able to both provide and take direction in an open minded, enthusiastic but always supportive manner. Exceptional organisation skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines, you need a willingness to not only absorb, but also expand on your market knowledge. An excellent standard of both written and oral English is essential as is your fluency in the use Adobe software and other relevant design packages.

If you would like to apply, please send your CV along with a covering letter quoting job reference number 45.19 via the Apply button. Please state your salary expectations.
