In partnership with Nottingham Trent University and Brunel Univesity London, De Montfort University (DMU) has recently been awarded a highly prestigious £4.65 million grant from Research England to deiliver the Impacting Business by Design (IBbD) SME (Small to Medilum Sized Enterprises) design support programme; a National scheme to support SME's develop products through to manufacture.
The DMU element is being driven by its Design Unit (www.design-unit.co.uk), a leading, product design and research consultancy operating out of the university. Founded over twenty five years ago, the unit has an excellent track record in developing successful products for numerous national and international clients that include BT, Adidas, G4s, Oxford Instruments and Google USA; encompassing products that range from medical and scientific devices to industrial equipment to consumer products.
Projects will span initial concept development through to final manufacture including full production specification and involve collaboration with SME's, manufacturers and other designers from the BIDA (British Industrial Design Association) network.

World-leading Fashion and Textiles courses offer an extensive range of specialist facilities including professionally equipped studios, textiles testing labs, and shoemaking, weaving, sewing and knitting workshops. Humanities students have access to the full range of audio-visual and IT facilities, including audio, video and web-based learning, and the option to study a language alongside their degree.
The University environment provides a unique setting for these activities enabling access to dedicated facilities that include comprehensive state of the art Rapid Prototyping and Additive Manufacturing technologies. IBbD is therefore seeking to recruit creative Product Designers/Researchers to be part of a lively and highly talented team undertaking and managing a wide variety of projects.
The successful applicant must be a proven innovator and have experience in the design and development of products (ideally at a commercial level). You will be self-motivated, with a conscientious work ethic and able to communicate clearly to other team members, suppliers and SME’s.
