We’re not looking for a typical Non-Executive Director.

This position has been used by our client as a development opportunity for many years, making it a rare chance to gain skills and experience usually reserved for very senior executives. Previous experience at Board level is not essential. What we are looking for is someone who is ambitious, bright, excelling in their career and keen to learn more.

Experience and knowledge:

  • Strong business acumen
  • A sophisticated understanding of finance and commercial issues such as risk management
  • Knowledge of good governance
  • Great communicator with the confidence to speak in public

Our client is one of London’s leading housing associations, managing tens of thousands of properties across the capital and building thousands more. They have a rich and innovative history with the same social purpose today as when they were formed- to provide quality homes for those who could not otherwise afford them.

They work in many different areas which take them from buying land and building new homes to through to long-term successful management of thriving communities. Members of the board are responsible for setting the organisation’s direction and strategy, scrutinising its implementation and maintaining the highest standards of governance in accordance with the regulatory framework. The Board and Executive Team  are responsible for making sure the association achieves its aims in a way that is compatible with the business plan, mission statement, values and vision.

The time commitment is expected to be around 10 evenings and potential overnight stays for Away Days, as well as time for reading of board papers and training.  The annual allowance is £9,000 for a Board member and £3,500 for a Committee member, taxable in both cases.

The Board is committed to equality and diversity. The aim is that the Board will be 50% female and at least 20% BAME to better reflect the community they serve. As a result, they would especially welcome and encourage applicants from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic groups to apply.
