Packaging designer (Sydney, Australia)
Our client is a packaging design agency based in Sydney. They are finding it increasingly difficult to find staff from the Australian talent pool so they are now looking to the UK for talent.
The agency is independently-owned (by the two lead designers), has been operating since 1994, currently employs around 18 people with space for up to 25, is located close to Sydney's CBD in a heritage-listed warehouse conversion. Their clients are global and multi-nationals. Their work tends to be through repeats, word of mouth and client referrals, and theirr client base has slowly expanded organically from their Sydney-centric base as product managers (and production) have moved offshore.
In particular they are looking for packaging design specialists to work on FMCG accounts.
From an immigration point of view, the easiest scenario would be to take someone initially on a working holiday visa. These are available to various nationalities including UK, USA, Canada, Ireland and most European countries for persons aged 20 to 31. This visa lasts for 12 months. They would offer employment with a three-month probation period, after which we could apply for a 457 Visa which allows employment for two years, with the option to apply to extend for a further two years. Thereafter, there is conjecture as to which professions will offer residency and citizenship (at the moment graphic design does not).
They currently employ staff from Australia, Korea, Vietnam, China, Indonesia and the UK - a reflection of Australian multiculturalism. Obviously, this could involve a relocation aspect (and some work on our part to facilitate visas etc); but it could also offer an opportunity to travel and experience a new culture and lifestyle.
In the past, some of their most successful employees have been Australians returning 'home' after some UK experience and this could offer another avenue of exploration.
