Data Visualisation Designer
Full-time (37.5 hours per week) or Part-time (22.5 hours)
We are looking for an entrepreneurial and creative Data Visualisation Designer with a respect and understanding for data to join our Innovation Mapping Team. This exciting role has a part-time option and so is ideal for someone who wants to embark on a career-enhancing opportunity with a flexible approach in how you work.
You will work with novel datasets in a range of high impact projects with client in the UK and overseas, and help to develop new opportunities that will enhance our reputation as a creator of high-impact and well-designed visualisations.

About the role
Mapping the places and networks where innovation happens is a key step in understanding and supporting it effectively, and today’s big economic and technological challenges make this mapping more important than ever.
Nesta’s Innovation Mapping Team is at the forefront of research, development and application, with high impact projects with governments, foundations and academic research teams in the UK and overseas. This requires effective visualisations that transform complex, innovative datasets into insights and better decisions.
To help us achieve these goals, you will take a leading role in growing our data visualisation capacity, and use your strong knowledge of open visualisation tools such as D3.js and Leaflet.js to design and develop interactive data visualisations, dashboards and maps to inform action by our policy users. You will also work with an interdisciplinary team of data scientists and developers in the team at all stages of the research project to ensure that our analytical outputs are suitable for effective and creative visualisation.

To secure this opportunity
Degree educated in a relevant subject, you will have a proven track record producing user-friendly, impactful and striking interactive data visualisations and/or dashboards, as well as using open visualisation programming tools such as D3.js. You will also have experience in the use of front-end web technologies and standards, and knowledge of user research, UX and user interface design. An outstanding communicator, you will be an excellent team player with a performance, quality and results-driven approach to your work. The ability to learn quickly and master new technology areas is also essential.
