Role: Librarian
Hierarchically reporting to: Director of Education
Location: London

Job summary

The purpose of the job is to provide the organization of the Library.
The role foresees the management of Library activities in order to provide a high quality service to students and teachers. 

Key purpose of the role

  • To provide vision and leadership for the development of the Fashion Library resources, services, and policies
  • To further develop the Design Library collection through allocation of the annual budget and to purchase new material according to tutors’ suggestions and own knowledge of the curriculum
  • To maintain all journal and electronic resource subscriptions, and analyse their popularity and performance.
  • To maintain and further develop the Design Library Management System
  • To aid students in their research by suggesting relevant material and study methods
  • To deliver inductions and information Design literacy presentations to all students
  • To manage a network of photocopy machines and assist students and teachers in their usage
  • To create monthly management reports in order to inform the Academic & Student Service Manager of the progress and developments of the Design Library
  • To contribute to the work and development of the wider School administration team, and to take part in certain school-wide activities
  • Take responsibility for particular services and support activities under the guidance of senior specialist staff
  • To undertake other duties in relation to any customer-facing activities, which may include: training events, road shows and staff/student committees

Education and skills

  • Bachelors Degree 
  • Previous experience working in a library environment, preferably in the academic sectors
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service ethos and a high level of patience
  • Must be a team-player and willing to collaborate and contribute to the work of a team
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and co-ordinate tasks to meet deadlines
  • High level of IT literacy, previous experience working with Library Management Systems and electronic resources desirable
  • Interest in and basic knowledge of Fashion & Design
  • Nice to have completed, or be about to complete, a CILIP accredited Library and Information Studies degree
