About the candidate

This is a unique opportunity for a talented, creative and highly motivated Designer to join Centre for London, a charity and think tank which is solving London’s biggest challenges.

We’re looking for someone with a mix of creative, design and marketing skills who can help us take Centre for London’s brand - and the way we communicate - to the next level.

You will have experience of designing for layout, colour and typography skills combined with an overall passion for good design. You’ll also have experience of working to corporate brand guidelines but have the ability to push those creatively.

You’ll have 1-3 years’ experience in a Graphic Design position and will be skilled in relevant design software, including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Importantly you’ll also be used to managing and driving projects forward independently and have enthusiasm for the Centre and its work.

About the role
The Junior Designer is an exciting new post in Centre for London’s rapidly growing team. As our designer, you will work closely with the Communications Manager to ensure the Centre’s brand is consistently used across all communications channels.

The Junior Designer will produce creative designs and artwork for all of the organisation’s print and digital requirements and will lead on the development of our brand guidelines.

Centre for London is a small but dynamic organisation with a team of friendly, highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals. The work culture is relaxed but professional, and the organisation offers a contributory pension scheme, a generous holiday allowance, and flexible working arrangements.

About Design at Centre for London

Centre for London’s brand is evolving. We’ve recently re-launched our website and now we need to bring our print publications and marketing in line with it. We’ve got ideas, but we need someone with a great eye for design who can quickly get a feel of our house style and help us refine it.
We communicate complex policy research and ideas to a broad audience through clear and creative designs. As such, you’ll have the opportunity to work across varied and interesting design projects.

On average we publish one research report per month, with design assets including a printed report, a digital report mailing, and social media (such as images and infographics). For events, we design collateral such as printed programmes and free-standing exhibitions and data visualisations. As Junior Designer, you will have the opportunity to work on all of these, and more.

Key responsibilities

  •  Manage the publication process of the Centre’s research from design, to typesetting print and production.
  • Support the development of the Centre’s Brand Guidelines and use these to create imaginative designs, develop concepts, graphics and layouts for future publications, projects and events, preparing artwork for print and digital use where necessary.

  • Effectively manage multiple briefs at a time
  • Support the Communications Manager in ensuring that all design work is delivered within budget and on time, keeping the wider team and sponsors updated.
  • Oversee print procurement – source providers and maintain up-to-date knowledge of prices, materials, processes and deadlines/delivery, keeping an updated record on Salesforce (our CRM).
  • Liaise with external design agencies where required.
  • Liaise with sponsors as required.

Brand management

  • Support the Communications Manager to ensure Centre for London’s brand is consistently used across all communications channels (including any use by third party organisations).
  • Maintain in-house branding and collateral.
  • Manage and keep up to date the in–house image library.
  • Champion the brand internally making sure all elements of the company understand the brand and its goals, while supporting staff to make effective use of Centre for London’s brand.
  •  Develop new templates for the wider team to use including PowerPoint presentations, project proposals and impact reports.
  • Collaborate with senior team members, sharing your ideas and iterating to produce exciting new graphic identities for all our products.

And finally,

  • Present the organisation in an appropriate and professional manner to its stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of the organisation through working in accordance with its wider objectives, corporate philosophy and values of integrity, excellence, collaboration, growth, respect and fun.
  • Because we’re a small and friendly organisation, from time-to-time we all chip in to help each other. This might be things like participating in brainstorming sessions, prepping for events, political discussions - it may even drag you away from a computer screen!
